Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) is a water-soluble cellulose derivative, sometimes referred to as a "sodium salt." It is one of the most commonly used derivatives among water-soluble cellulose derivatives and has high commercial value.
CMC is widely used in various industries, including food, toothpaste, paper, ceramics, textiles, and oil drilling.
Applications
1. In the Paper Industry:
- Preparation of Coated Paper Coatings: It can be used as a wet end additive, surface sizing agent, etc.
- Control and Regulation of Coating Rheology and Pigment Dispersion: CMC helps control and regulate the rheology and dispersion of pigments in coatings.
- Good Film-Forming Properties: It improves the glossiness of coatings.
- Enhancement of Whitening Agent Retention: It increases the retention rate of whitening agents in coatings, thereby improving paper whiteness.
2. In Ceramics:
- Excellent Dispersibility and Protective Colloidal Properties: CMC ensures that glaze slurry remains in a stable dispersed state without layering.
- Viscosity Regulation of Glaze Slurry: It regulates the viscosity of glaze slurry, providing good rheological properties for easy application.
- Uniform Degree of Substitution: The product has a uniform degree of substitution, few gel particles, no insolubles, and good screenability.
3. In Detergents:
- Improvement to Ideal Consistency: CMC enhances product performance.
- Fast Dissolution without Clumping: It dissolves quickly without forming clumps.
- High Solution Transparency: The resulting solution has high transparency and light transmittance.
4. In Oil Drilling:
- Formation of a Thin, Firm, Low-Permeability Filter Cake: This significantly reduces water loss.
- Reduction of Initial Shear Force: This makes it easier for mud to release entrapped gas.
- Stabilization of Suspension Systems: It extends the life of drilling mud.
- Good Temperature and Salt Resistance: CMC is resistant to high temperatures, salt, and various soluble salts.
